On 26 December 1586, in Chiquinquirá, Boyacá, Colombia, a faded canvas of Our Lady of the Rosary was reported suddenly restored to vivid color and clarity before multiple witnesses. In December 1586, the town of Chiquinquirá in the department of Boyacá, in what was then the Spanish colonial territory of New Granada (now Colombia), became the site of a reported miraculous event. A canvas depicting Our Lady of the Rosary, which had hung in the local chapel and had become darkened and worn with age, was said to have been suddenly restored to brilliant color and clarity.
