You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time? “Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison. I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

Nella grotta di Massabielle la Madonna apparve diciotto volte a santa Bernadette Soubirous, figlia di un mugnaio povero. La Madonna rivelò una sorgente che ancora accoglie i malati, chiese una cappella e processioni e — quattro anni dopo il dogma — si nominò l’Immacolata Concezione. Da quella grotta nascosta non è mai cessato un luogo di lavacro, di lumi e di pellegrinaggio.

Messaggi principali
- Quando Bernadette le chiese il nome, la Madonna disse: «Io sono l’Immacolata Concezione» — il dogma definito quattro anni prima, pronunciato dalla Madonna stessa.
- «Penitenza! Penitenza! Penitenza! Pregate Dio per i peccatori. Andate, baciate la terra per la conversione dei peccatori.»
- Bere e lavarsi alla sorgente; venire in processione; dire ai sacerdoti di costruire qui una cappella. L’acqua e le processioni restano i segni di Lourdes.
- La Madonna disse a Bernadette: «Non vi prometto di rendervi felici in questo mondo, ma nell’altro.»

Dopo che l’Angelo della Pace li ebbe preparati, la Madonna apparve sei volte a Lucia, Francesco e Giacinta, chiese il Rosario quotidiano, mostrò loro l’inferno e il Cuore Immacolato, e confermò il messaggio con il miracolo del sole dinanzi a una grande folla.
