In 1594, Mother Mariana de Jesús Torres, a Spanish-born Conceptionist nun in Quito, Ecuador, reported apparitions of Mary under the title of Good Success. Mariana, a Spanish-born member of the Conceptionist order, would remain in the convent until her death in 1635, serving as abbess and spiritual guide.

The statue of Our Lady of Good Success became deeply embedded in Ecuadorian Catholic memory and practice. Pilgrims and the faithful have long sought Mary's intercession through this image, particularly in times of spiritual uncertainty or institutional challenge to the Church.
The apparitions and devotion received diocesan approval, establishing the cult as a legitimate expression of Marian piety within the Catholic tradition.
