In 1594, Mother Mariana de Jesús Torres, a Spanish-born Conceptionist nun in Quito, Ecuador, reported apparitions of Mary under the title of Good Success. The visionary received messages of consolation and prophecy concerning trials facing the Church, and a statue was commissioned to commemorate the apparition. Diocesan approval established the devotion, and the image remains a cherished focus of Ecuadorian Marian piety.

Relato

In 1594, within the Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Quito, Ecuador, Mother Mariana de Jesús Torres began to report apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. Mariana, a Spanish-born member of the Conceptionist order, would remain in the convent until her death in 1635, serving as abbess and spiritual guide.

According to the accounts, Mary appeared to Mariana under the title of Good Success and requested that a statue be made to commemorate the apparition. The visionary described Mary's appearance and the messages she conveyed, which were recorded and preserved within the convent community. The statue was crafted and placed in the cloister choir, where it became the focal point of prayer and veneration.

The messages associated with the apparitions emphasized perseverance in faith during times of spiritual trial, the importance of purity and fidelity among clergy and religious communities, and trust in Mary's maternal intercession during crises. Mariana was said to have received prophecies concerning future afflictions that would test the Church, alongside assurances of Mary's protective care.

Devotion to Our Lady of Good Success gradually extended beyond the convent walls into the broader Catholic community of Quito and Ecuador. The local bishop exercised pastoral oversight of the growing cult of the image, ensuring that veneration remained orthodox and properly ordered within Church discipline.

IMMAGINE STATUA

The statue of Our Lady of Good Success became deeply embedded in Ecuadorian Catholic memory and practice. Pilgrims and the faithful have long sought Mary's intercession through this image, particularly in times of spiritual uncertainty or institutional challenge to the Church.

The apparitions and devotion received diocesan approval, establishing the cult as a legitimate expression of Marian piety within the Catholic tradition. The shrine continues to be maintained and honored as a place of prayer and encounter with Mary's maternal presence in the life of the Ecuadorian Church.
