Between November 1932 and January 1933, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared 33 times to five children in Beauraing, Belgium. Known as Our Lady of Beauraing or the Virgin with the Golden Heart, Mary called for prayer, sacrifice, and the conversion of sinners. The apparitions, which occurred near a convent school, were officially recognized as supernatural by the Bishop of Namur in 1949, establishing Beauraing as a significant Marian shrine.
From November 29, 1932, to January 3, 1933, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared 33 times to five children in Beauraing, a small town in the province of Namur, Belgium. The apparitions primarily took place in the garden of the local convent school, near a hawthorn bush.
The visionaries were Fernande Voisin (15), Albert Voisin (11), Gilberte Voisin (13), Andrée Degeimbre (14), and Gilberte Degeimbre (9). These children, playing together, first encountered the Lady while walking to pick up one of their sisters from school.
Mary appeared dressed in a long white robe with a blue sash, a crown of light, and her hands joined in prayer. She identified herself as the Immaculate Virgin and the Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, asking for a chapel to be built and for pilgrims to come.
During the final apparitions, Mary revealed her heart, which shone with a brilliant golden light, earning her the title "Virgin with the Golden Heart." This image became a distinctive symbol of the Beauraing apparitions.
The core messages emphasized constant prayer, sacrifice, and the conversion of sinners. Mary repeatedly urged the children to "Pray, pray much" and "Pray always," promising to convert sinners through their devotion.
Following a thorough investigation, Bishop André-Marie Charue of Namur formally recognized the supernatural character of the apparitions on July 2, 1949. This declaration affirmed the authenticity of the events and encouraged public devotion.
Beauraing has since become a significant Marian shrine, attracting numerous pilgrims seeking spiritual renewal and intercession. Devotion to Our Lady of Beauraing, particularly under the title "Virgin with the Golden Heart," continues to flourish.
